DANNY FEARON is being released by Cougars at the end of the season, and is now searching rugby league for a new contract.

Coach Gary Moorby told Fearon he would not be offered a contract for the 2003 season because he does not fit in with his 'footballing plans.'

"Danny is a very skillful player but he just does not fit in with my plans for next season. It is a footballing decision," he said.

Fearon was brought to the club by former coach Steve Deakin, before he left to become Assistant Coach with London Broncos. He was a highly-rated youth player, but has failed to live up to his potential at senior level.

He has also been the target of a section of the club's supporters and reacted to criticism from the terraces.

Although Moorby is adamant that his decision was made purely on footballing terms the player has been a frustrating member of the team.

He has also repeatedly made it clear that he only wanted players who were totally committed to playing for Keighley.

Former captain Jason Ramshaw is also deciding whether to return to playing after being out of action with a shoulder injury for most of the season.

After having delicate surgery to re-attach torn muscles he has returned to training.

"I have had a word with jason and he is still considering his future, but next year will be a massive season for the club and he could play a major part.

"He has the experience our young team needs and I am convinced 2003 will be a very positive year for the club.

"We have always said that this year was about survival after the club was saved. Now we are set to move on to a rebuilding phase - we will be moving forward," he said.

Most of the club's existing players have signed new contracts for the next season and Moorby is also searching for new recruits to join the squad.

"I have had talks with a player to join the three-quarters and with a forward who are out of contract with their existing clubs. I am waiting for calls from both of them and hopefully they will join us and be useful additions to the squad.

"Obviously I can't name names until they have signed because I do not want to alert other clubs," he said.

Moorby is set to select from an almost full squad for Sunday's game at Barrow with the only concern being over Paul Ahston who suffered heavy bruising in their last league game against Oldham.

"We are expecting a tough game, but we pulled off a good win against the Cumbrian club when they visited Cougar Park in March. Ashton came on as sub and we turned the game round to win 30-28.

n The is to hold a meeting to prepare for 'working parties' on the ground. Volunteers are asked to turn up a 10am on Saturday, September 28. "We want to make Cougar Park a ground Keighley can be proud of," said organiser Julie Spencer.
