A 39-year-old man, alleged to have threatened to kill an elderly woman, has been banned from a Bradford estate and faces prison if he returns.

Christopher Ellerton is said to have made the threat after the pensioner gave evidence against him in Court when the Council obtained possession of his home because of his alleged behaviour.

He is also alleged to have assaulted her husband the following day.

As a result the Council last month obtained an emergency injunction banning him from the Greengates estate but has only just managed to serve it on the father of five because he went into hiding.

A Council spokesman said the tenancy enforcement team had obtained possession of Mr Ellerton's home in Rokeby Gardens, Greengates, in June after investigations into allegations of severe nuisance, anti-social and criminal behaviour.

He added: "In August tenancy enforcement teams interviewed a very distressed elderly lady who had previously given evidence against Christopher Ellerton. The lady stated that Christopher had followed her through the Greengates estate while she was returning home, threatened to kill her, and that the following day he had assaulted her husband."

The spokesman said the Council had applied successfully at the County Court the following day for an injunction banning him from Greengates. Police had been given powers of immediate arrest if he was found there.

"The order was endorsed the following week but not served on Christopher Ellerton until the middle of September as he had persistently eluded officers trying to serve the order. The order, that lasts for a year, has been taken out to protect witnesses," said the spokesman.

"The injunction prevents him from causing a nuisance or annoyance to anyone on the estate, from approaching the witnesses and entering or remaining in Greengates."

When contacted by the Telegraph & Argus, Mr Ellerton declined to comment.

The injunction is part of a blitz by the Council to rid the estates of people who terrorise tenants.

The authority obtained an injunction three weeks ago in a completely separate case which resulted in its biggest ever exclusion order.

As a result, a 42-year-old a man is banned from a major slice of the city including 40 blocks of flats. The man was said to have intimidated vulnerable people by entering, living in and using their homes for illegal activities.
