Glam rockers T-Rex are to get it on in Bradford at a special concert - with a very special guest.

The event will mark the 25th anniversary of the death of the band's frontman and pop icon Marc Bolan who died in a car crash.

And history will be made as the late singer's son Rolan Bolan is flying over from Los Angeles, California, to join the band for the first time and sing one of their hits.

Band manager Barry Newby, who comes from Bradford and now lives in Batley, said the group rarely played in Britain.

"They play the odd gig over here so this really will be a very special night for a number of reasons," he said.

"Obviously they're looking forward to Rolan singing with them and he's planning to perform either Children of the Revolution or 20th Century Boy.

"It will be an evening to remember and the group chose Bradford because the last time they played there they had a fantastic night."

And a number of stars from the 1970s, including Saxon's guitarist Graham Oliver, are expected at the event at Pennington's club next Friday.

The rockers had numerous hits including Telegram Sam, Metal Guru and Get It On.

Bolan, whose real name was Mark Feld, died on 16 September, 1977 when a Mini he was in, driven by girlfriend Gloria Jones, crashed into a tree.

The band re-formed in 1997 to mark the 20th anniversary of the rock legend's death.

The new line-up includes the original drummer Mark Fenton, who lives in Batley, and percussionist Mickey Finn. Alan Silson, formerly of Bradford rock band Smokie, is the lead guitarist with Dave Major on keyboard and Rob Benson on vocals.

Bingley-based thermalwear manufacturers Damart sponsor the group and make their official t-shirts.

The company's business development manager Jim Crosbie said the band first approached them a couple of years ago for some thermal undies for their Russian tour.

"It's great news that they're coming back to Bradford and it will be a night not to be missed," he said.
