Avenue will be looking to bounce back from their expensive FA Cup exit as they return to league action tonight.

The UniBond club suffered a defensive, midfield and goalkeeping nightmare and are £10,000 worse off after Bridlington Town dumped them out of the competition in the Third Qualifying Round.

And boss Trevor Storton will be hoping for an instant return to the recent league form at Hucknall Town.

"If we play like we did on Saturday we will lose by ten," said Storton, clearly still angry at crashing out to lower league opposition at the weekend.

"But I can't see that happening. The players should have no problem raising their game for this one, it is only the Cup we had a problem with.

"It is a mental thing about that competition. It doesn't matter what team we put out and what formation we were going to play, the attitude of the players was wrong and we paid the penalty. It is very frustrating."

But despite the horrendous performance by the Avenue rearguard on Saturday, Storton will not be ringing the changes.

Until the Bridlington defeat, his side had embarked on a run that had seen them lose just once in ten games and included memorable victories away at Blyth and Lancaster as well as a draw with runaway leaders Accrington Stanley.

"I think it would be wrong to drop them because of Saturday," said Storton.

"We have been playing very well recently in the league and to swap everything around would be unfair on the lads.

"But I am looking to bring in a midfielder in the next couple of weeks. If we can continue our league form, then we can push for finishing top and that is why I want to bring someone else in."

A stronger performance tonight would not only please the fans who bombarded the club's mailing list with anger after the Bridlington defeat but would also go some way to gaining revenge.

Back on September 4, Hucknall handed Avenue their heaviest home defeat of the season, beating them 3-0 at Horsfall Stadium.

"They are a strong team and don't lose many games," added Storton.

"It is the sort of tough game we need after the complacency of Saturday."
