Sainsbury's, the southern supermarket chain, are planning a major expansion in the north and are looking for a site in Bradford. A national advertising campaign urges the owners of suitable sites in Bradford and 15 other northern cities to come forward and negotiate. The company has most of its stores in the London and Birmingham areas, but last year moved to Sheffield and Doncaster as the first stage in its expansion northwards.

Moves have been started to spend about £5,000 on extra heating apparatus to overcome excessive condensation in 149 temporary aluminium bungalows in Bradford. The Corporation Public Works Committee will be told on Wednesday that its Housing sub-committee has resolved that this heating should be installed. The Ministry of Housing and Local Government will provide £4,470 of the cost.
