A NEW brass band composition had its first public performance on Saturday in the town that gives it its name.
"Barnoldswick" is a lively march composed and arranged for Barnoldswick Brass Band by its musical director John Smith. It had its debut performance on the Town Square when the band gave a concert as part of a safety awareness event.
Band spokesman Neil Barker said: "We had rehearsed the composition in rehearsals, but Saturday was its first live airing. It was very well received by members of the public and a lot of the band members got good feedback from it."
Mr Barker said the band was privileged to have a musical director of Mr Smith's calibre: "He wanted to compose a march for the band as it's quite common for brass bands to have marches composed specifically for them. It's also good for the town to have a piece of music named after it."
