VANDALS have damaged Bradley's millennium map just two weeks after it was unveiled.

There are three cracks in the perspex, which could have been caused by stones thrown at the map or air pellets.

As the Herald reported, the map, which has pen drawings of buildings in the village, was funded through village fundraising.

Peter Holt, from the millennium committee, said: "I was sickened. It is very upsetting, a lot of time and effort has gone into it, much of it voluntary."

Chairman the Rev Margaret Lawday said she was saddened by the damage, and sad that the culprits had nothing better to do.

"We were so proud and it was a real village effort. It reflected so much of the village history and the villagers' skills. It seems their efforts have been stamped on," she said.

The incident, which occurred sometime on Tuesday, has been reported to the police and anyone with information should contact them on 01756 793377.

Meanwhile repairing the damage, estimated at £300, remains a problem. The committee is concerned that rain will seep through the cracks, causing the ink to run, and funds have run out to replace the perspex.

They are hoping that the vandals responsible will be brought to justice and they may receive compensation. Otherwise the cost will have to be met by more village generosity.
