THEATRE: Revenge - Keighley Playhouse

The proverb about a woman scorned has never seemed truer than in Keighley Playhouse's latest thriller.

The production of Robin Hawdon's Revenge features more double-dealing, treachery and betrayal than a week in Westminster.

Rising Tory MP Bill Crayshaw has married into money and is on the make as he plans his ruthless rise to the top.

The womaniser's latest dodgy deal involves a share investment that is anything but fair trade.

However, he hasn't banked on reporter Mary Stewart, who is convinced that he has resorted to dubious business practices and even murder in his pursuit of power and wealth.

What follows are twists and turns where things are never quite what they seem.

Mark Rundle is fine as the money-grabbing MP, but it would have been nice to see a bit more smarm and arrogance for him to really convince.

Playhouse stalwart Debbie Bowman is on excellent form as Mary Stewart and even has a convincing Scottish accent, which in amateur productions can sometimes come across like Miss Jean Brodie on speed.

Both should be congratulated for holding the production together so well in what must be a pretty physically and mentally demanding play.

Although best known for his appearances in farces, Geoff Whitley produces the two-hander with an assured touch and keeps the audience guessing throughout, although the finale is a tad predictable.

Revenge may be a dish served cold, but Keighley Playhouse has managed to heat things up nicely.

Runs until tomorrow.

Video: The Time Machine

Several years after his appearances in Neighbours, Guy Pearce becomes the hero of this new adaptation of H G Wells' classic novel.

In the main the story is told faithfully, with Guy building the machine so he can travel back to save the life of his murdered girlfriend.

But however many times he returns, he finds he cannot change what happens, so he heads for the future in a desperate search for answers.

He lands in a nightmarish post-apocalyptic world where humans - including Samantha Mumba - flee from mutant scavengers.

Although it pales beside other recent blockbusters like The Mummy Returns and Spiderman, The Time Machine is never less than entertaining.

Game: Tekken 4

At last it's here - the 3D fighting game that beat-em-up fans have been waiting for.

Tekken 4, for PlayStation 2, lives up to the hype with a no-holds-barred kick and punch fest. There are 20 characters to choose from including a number of old faces like Kazuya and Yoshimitsu and new additions including a British boxer with powerful punches.

The game is gorgeous, with improved environmental and character detail, and new game modes including a roving fight sequence.
