Embassy A continue their winning ways at the top of the Keighley & District Table Tennis League Division One with another convincing performance away at Airedale Terriers.

Shaken by Mark Emmott's opening 21-10, 21-11 defeat of Neil Foley, the visitors shook themselves out of their lethargy to win the remaining nine rubbers. But it was a close call on a number of occasions, with Tony Boyd only just pipping Terrier Tom Lacey 21-14, 19-21, 26-24 and Paul Beck just failing in the third to both Foley and Boyd 23-21 and 21-17 respectively.

Even the doubles was close with Carl White and Boyd just defeating Emmott and Beck 21-13, 11-21, 21-17. This topped off a fine performance for White who was a class above the field, his closest game being the defeat of Beck 21-15, 21-15.

Beleaguered Terriers suffered again this week, away at Lothersdale A. Keith Wilkinson's treble included a 21-13, 21-14 success against Tom Lacey and second maximum man for Lothersdale, David Adams, had a close call against Paul Beck 24-22, 21-23, 21-18.

Beck was the scorer of the lone point for the losers, defeating one-time Terrier, Tim Boothman 21-17, 21-18.

Lothersdale B had a good 6-4 home win against Nelson Nomads. David Galley and Martin Connolly both grabbed a couple, but it was a close run thing for both against David Ayrton who only just slipped up 21-19, 17-21, 21-15 to Galley and 23-25, 21-19, 21-18 to Connolly.

Nelson new boy Frank Gray collected three of his team's four points with a superb display, following up a 8-21, 21-17, 21-18 victory against Connolly with defeats of Galley 21-18, 22-20 and Peter Midgley 21-14, 21-19.

Three matches in and still without a win, last season's Third Division Champions Oakworth are finding it hard to adjust to the step up in class.

A 7-3 defeat at Wilsden with Adam Broadbent securing an impressive treble that included a 21-18, 13-21, 21-19 victory against Ben Lowe, was followed by an even bigger hammering, 10-0 at promotion favourites Nemesis B.

Dave Manogue, Craig Priestley and Peter Worger made sure that the match was over in double quick time with none of the rubbers going to a decider. Worger's 21-16, 21-19 defeat of Steve Smith was probably the highlight of the evening.

Wilsden also enjoyed another home victory, 7-3 against Cononley, but the contest was close with four rubbers going to three, with all except Eric Hudson's 20-22, 21-14, 21-13 defeat of Dave Broadbent ending in favour of Wilsden.

The other 'if only' scores were Luke Broadbent's 21-18, 18-21, 21-18 success against Stuart Maude and the same player's 21-17, 18-21, 21-19 defeat of Paul Lister, plus an exciting doubles win for Adam and Luke, 21-13, 20-22, 21-12 against Lister and Hudson.

In Division Three, Crossflatts A and B locked horns in the first derby of the season. Sadly for the B squad it proved to be no contest as John Patrick, Ben Hinchcliffe and Danny McHugh raced away to a 10-0 victory.

Johnson & Johnson also enjoyed a good result at home to Ilkley Road C. Derek Stanforth's treble included a 20-22, 21-12, 21-15 defeat of Ken Feather and John Pullen defeated Paul Stead 21-16, 21-11 also on his way to a full house. The Riddlesden team's only success came with a Steve Ives win against Alan Ripley 21-13, 21-17 to give a final score of 9-1 in favour of the Gargrave boys.
