WHARFEDALE embark on another aerial adventure in the South West tomorrow when they make a flying visit to Penzance Pirates in National Division One, (writes Tony Simpson).

There is inevitably a special sense of occasion whenever the departure from the Broad Acres is from Leeds-Bradford airport and that is sure to be part of the equation tomorrow as a group of 65 players and supporters from The Avenue embark on what seems certain to be a major test.

The potential upset of a rough flight to St Mawgan apart, the Dalesmen cannot expect an easy ride. The Pirates are currently in second place in the table with only one defeat in six outings and represent a stern test for the Dalesmen, who could use an against-the-odds win to get themselves back into the top half of the table.

They have now suffered three successive defeats in league and cup matches and a win at Westholme would be very useful.

The Dalesmen go into the game at full-strength given the long-term absence of Andy Hodgson and Graham Smith.

They have Phil Hargreaves at No 8 after a handful of good displays for the Foresters and he teams up with brother Simon and Hedley Verity in the back-row.

Behind the scrum, newcomer Sam Cottrell continues at scrum-half alongside Andy Baggett in a back division unchanged from the last game against Bracknell.

Elsewhere on the staffing front, Sam Allen resumes tomorrow with the Foresters. He is now fully operational after making a premature return a few weeks ago and should be vying for a first-team return fairly soon.

Another back-row contender in the coming weeks will be Tony Jackson, who is back from Australia and hoping to be available for the club for the foreseeable future. He made his first appearance back last Friday night with the Foresters, but picked up a calf strain which rules him out tomorrow.

Also adding to the competition for back-row places is newcomer Richard Maunder, who has joined the club from Leeds Tykes Academy.
