A Silsden girl wants everyone to know how proud she is of her mum.

Abby Young, 12, contacted the Keighley News after reading about the paper's search for special parents or carers.

Readers under 16 were invited to write in and explain why they thought their parent or carer was particularly deserving of an accolade.

Abby, from Hunters Meadow in Silsden, wrote: "Why my mum deserves to have a certificate for being the best mum, now that's a question. There are many things why. First she is loving, kind, caring, giving, always willing to help, in fact I bet she does more than any other mum who is able to.

"You see, my mum Sheran Young has a lot of medical problems, for a start she has a broken back, the nerves in her legs are damaged due to her back and she still goes on in life as a strong friend and mother.

"She is my hero, my companion and my best friend in the world, I don't know what I would do without her."

Abby continued: "She has had a lot to deal with over the past few years and still she keeps on going, and I am proud to call her my mum."

Mrs Young was surprised to be contacted and said: "After I had a fall I damaged my back and because of medical problems my condition got worse and it's affected the nerves in my legs. I need a wheelchair or crutches but you just get on with it really.

"This has been such a lovely surprise. It brought a tear to my eye. She's made my night and it was a lovely thing to do."
