TWO former Long Lee Juniors footballers have taken the first steps on the ladder to becoming Premiership soccer stars.

Dale Feather, who was playing with the Under-9s and Matthew Pearson was turning out with the under-10s when their ability was spotted by local coach and Blackburn Rovers scout Paul Schofield.

Dale played for last season's very successful Under-8s team which was run by Charlie Wysocki, while Matthew was still playing in September for this season's Under-10s.

"The Long Lee club has an excellent junior set up and these two promisi8ng players have benefited a great deal from the coaching they have received with the local club," Paul said.

The two potential stars are now working with Blackburn's Premiership Academy. They are coached twice a week at Blackburn's impressive purpose-built training centre and play games every Sunday.

"They are playing in the top tier of football for their age groups, which brings out the best and helps the players develop their natural ability very quickly," Paul said.

Dale originally signed schoolboy forms for Blackburn as a defender in April, but he is now also operating in midfield and has three goals to his name in 10 games.

Matthew only signed last month and scored on his debut against Manchester United. He has since settled in well playing the high standard of football.

This Sunday both boys will be in action for 'The Rovers' against Liverpool.
