Junior Witter has done absolutely nothing this week.

And he intends to reap the rewards from his inactivity tonight by taking a major step towards the WBO light-welterweight world title.

Bradford's Witter takes on inter-continental champion Guiseppe Lauri from Italy in Derby in a final eliminator.

Witter wants to make every second count after spending the last few

days twiddling his thumbs in a hotel room.

He said: "The last week before a fight is the worst bit, it's the pits. It's so boring because you can't do a lot.

"You taper off the training and then it's all about watching what you eat. You can't go and do anything because that will burn too much energy and then you will want to start eating again.

"You sit down, read for a bit, watch TV, play a game, and then after an hour you've done it all. You've still got the rest of the day to go.

"I find myself wishing the day away which is a real waste. But although it's annoying it has to be done."

Witter, who has been away from fiancee Karen since Sunday, does not want any distractions from his mission which would lead to a shot at American DeMarcus Corley. More importantly it would reinforce his claims to face Ricky Hatton in a battle of Britain next year.

He said: "I have to go through these times to get where I want to be. This is a massive opportunity and I don't

want any outside excuses getting in the way.

"It happened when I fought Zab Judah a couple of years ago. Because I didn't have the proper preparation it niggled away at me and distracted my concentration. This is what I've chosen to do and the sacrifice is worth making. I want to make a lot of money from the sport so I've got to be the best.

"As long as I achieve my goal then it will have been worth everything and I'll be happy.

"Lauri is a dangerous opponent. He's had 31 fights and has only been beaten twice.

"This is a world title eliminator and he's had plenty of notice to get ready. He's above me in the rankings, so I've definitely got something to prove there.

"But Hatton stopped him in five a couple of years ago and I don't think this one will go the distance either.

"I'm go to make sure I do a number on him and to do that I have to be 100 per cent."

Since losing to Judah, Witter has stopped his last nine all inside five rounds.

The fight is live on Sky Sports 1 at 8.30pm.
