Nicky Law today hit back at the boo boys as City try to get their season back on the rails.

Law and his squad were heckled by a small section of the crowd after the 5-0 thumping by Sheffield United, the fifth defeat on the bounce.

As he prepared for tomorrow's trip to Millwall, the City boss admitted he was not surprised to see the team struggling.

And today's bombshell news that the players have not received their November wages only adds to the pressure that is mounting both on and off the field.

Law said: "The fact we got off to a good start and got 19 points reasonably quickly was a bonus. Maybe people got a little bit carried away because this is the true reality now.

"I knew it would be like this so it doesn't come as a shock. The main thing has always been to stay up this year.

"You hear the odd stupid comment and read silly things. It seems to be the mindless few that don't really know too much about what's going on but unfortunately they are always the ones that make the most noise.

"Anyone within football knows the constraints we are under and couldn't expect any more than we are doing."

Chairman Gordon Gibb has given his backing by making it clear Law's position is not under threat despite the slide into relegation trouble.

Law said: "It is a constant seven-day week juggling things about to get a team out and the chairman knows that.

"I don't think there is anybody who could come in and do anything different."

Law will go with experience at the New Den. Atherton, Myers, Robert Molenaar and Wayne Jacobs are set to start with Jamie Lawrence on the bench.

Lawrence, out for three months with a broken ankle, said: "There is no need for anyone to panic. It's not as if we're in March already and we've got plenty of games to turn it round."

Law added: "We need to stop the rot tomorrow. It doesn't matter if it's a scrappy performance. I'll take a fortuitous 90th minute winner if it gets us out of this run."
