Otley'S own radio station is set to return to the airwaves this weekend with a new and exciting format.

From 7am on Sunday and for the next two weeks, Wharfedale 106.6 FM will be reaching outfrom its base at the offices of the Wharfeda;e Observer across Otley until late at night. Organiser Nigel Francis promises more Otley involvement, more exciting features, some new presenters - and the return of some old favourites.

He said: "I've been busy over the last few days recording a number of people's top ten records. We've had some really interesting selections which make fascinating listening."

The daily top ten features includes contributions from chamber of trade president Trevor Backhouse and Lesley Tate, of the Wharfedale and Airedale Observer, as well as Otley Town Clerk Les Cross and community development worker, Julia Johnson.

Throughout the day, listeners will be treated to a variety of music and presenters and a few surprises - such as Otley Little Theatre's Joan Birkett and Guiseley minister, Simon Hammond.

Nigel said: "Joan came on the show last time around and she was such a success, we decided to give her a show. She's going to have some friends round with her, so it should be good fun.

"Simon Hammond, the manic minister, was a real favourite the first time we did the station and is going to be with us for the second week."

Now, the station is inviting anyone to telephone in with any special requests.

"We'd be delighted to read out any special requests, whether it's for a birthday, wedding anniversary, or just a special mention, just give us a call," said Nigel.

The station's main sponsor, Denise Mather, of AC Embroi-dery, said she was giving the station every support.

Mrs Mather, who on Saturday opened a shop in Boroughgate, said: "I think the radio station is a really good idea. Its good for businesses in Otley and I'm pleased to be involved."

l Any requests can be telephoned in to the station from Sunday on (01943) 468765.
