Haworth was full of people celebrating the Scroggling the Holly parade at the weekend.

The village thronged with people welcoming the start of the festive season and the event was hailed as a success by organisers.

Chairman of the Haworth Traders Association Mike Hutchinson says: "It all went very, very well, we were fantastically pleased with the result.

"Everything from the town criers' competition on Saturday through to the parade on Sunday went according to plan and there was a wonderful atmosphere.

"The town crier contest was great and really livened things up.

"A lot of the criers stayed in the village and took part in Sunday's activities.

"The parade on Sunday went well and lots of people turned up to support it. There was a really good atmosphere."

The parade up Main Street behind the Holly Queen Victoria Smith, eight, included the opening of Haworth Parish Church gates to allow Santa Claus through and officially launch the Christmas season in the village.

Mr Hutchinson continues: "We had the Haworth band, the Oakworth Morris men and everyone was dressed in Victorian costume.

"Eighteen coach loads arrived in the morning, so you can imagine how busy it got later."

Mr Hutchinson added his thanks to those businesses who had supported the weekend and said: "The town criers were put up free of charge by some local businesses."
