A nativity scene from an Ilkley church is being used to boost a £570,000 community hall project.

A photograph of St Margaret's Christmas crib has been transferred onto 5,000 greetings cards to raise money for the church's Parish Hall Appeal.

The picture was taken by Canon Bernard Gribbin, an honorary priest from Addingham who has been helping at St Margaret's since retiring.

This year's Christmas card idea follows on from the success of last year's photo-to-card scheme, which featured a detail of the church's Incarnation Window, also captured by Canon Gribbin using, what else, a Canon camera.

Ordained for 41 years, Cannon Gribbin, of Hodgson Fold, Addingham, said: "I got the idea for the cards after seeing something similar in another church.

"I hope they will do well this year - if they are all sold this will make about £800 profit."

The money raised will give the campaign further impetus following on from the £5,400 generated by a celebrity auction earlier this month.

Father Richard Hoyal, Vicar of St Margaret's, said: "The church is grateful to Canon Gribbin for what is a valued contribution towards our ongoing appeal."

This year's cards are priced at £3.50 for 10, or £10 for 30. For more details call Canon Gribbin on (01943) 831502.
