A concerned mum today warned that pupils will be killed outside her child's school unless extra car parking space is introduced.

Deborah Kelsall said in the last two weeks she had witnessed two accidents outside Cottingley Village Primary School which is on the corner of two busy roads - Cottingley Moor Road and Cottingley New Road.

Mrs Kelsall said cars speed along the 30mph roads and some parents park on pavements to drop their children off.

"It's just so dangerous taking your children to school," said Mrs Kelsall. "It's absolutely frightening in a morning, as everyone is dashing to get to work."

Mrs Kelsall, whose four-year-old daughter Megan attends the school, suggested turning neighbouring land into a car park for parents to drop their children off in a morning.

Headteacher Tina Briggs said the school was constantly in touch with Bradford Council's highways department.

"Traffic levels have been a problem ever since we moved here and the primary school has doubled in size," she said. "As far as I am aware there have been a few minor incidents outside the school. The road is dreadful in the morning and is really, really busy."

A Bradford Council spokesman said: "We are looking at a number of options at Cottingley Village Primary School to help ease the traffic problems."
