Ilkley 10

West Park 47

A TIGHT game was anticipated beforehand but West Park turned on an impressive away display to cement their position of joint top of Yorkshire Division Two.

Ilkley started the brighter but Park soon replied as their forwards drove upfield and Tim Corrigan was held just short. Soon after winger Jack Bickerdike collected a kick to set up a counter-attack which was carried on by Jason Whitehead who in turn fed Matt Stephens for the try which Richard Monkhouse converted.

The home side missed a penalty before an error allowed Park fly-half Matt Ingram to charge down a kick and the supporting Corrigan scored.

Ilkley opened their account with a penalty and actually took three strikes against the head to keep the pressure on Park up to half-time which arrived at 3-12.

A long kick to the corner by Monkhouse saw Park score again from a close in scrum as scrum-half Glen Kilvington skipped over for a converted try.

Park then began to play some flowing rugby and winger Dave Howarth broke away but elected to kick rather than back-ing his pace when a try was beckoning.

Monkhouse con-verted but Ilkley showed great spirit and scored a converted try in the corner after a move in the backs.

Park, however, had the last laugh as both Jason Whitehead and Paul Minns completed a brace of tries apiece, one of which was converted by Monkhouse.

Park will hope to continue their good form at home to Heath on Saturday, kick-off 2.15pm.
