GARY MOORBY'S hopes of winning the NFP Division Two championship were given a massive boost this week when Ian Sinfield agreed to make the move to Cougar Park.

The 25-year-old, who plays back row or loose forward, is the older brother of Leeds Rhinos and Great Britain star Kevin Sinfield. "He will give the squad a tremendous boost, and was keen to come to Keighley - he thinks we have things heading in the right direction," Moorby said.

Plans to bring in a number of players have been thwarted by the club's determination to stick to its policy of strict financial controls, but the coach has been delighted with the quality of his new signings.

"A number of clubs seem to have been signing players left, right and centre, but we have to stick within the financial limits, and I like to think we have gone for quality rather than quantity.

"Ian is a super player who will really add some experience to the team," he said.

Sinfield signed on Tuesday night after agreeing a move from Rochdale where his made 19 first team appearances last season. He has also played at Oldham and prior to that was at Salford

He is a former BARLA Under-18 international and also a former member of the Great Britain Academy squad.

"He come with a reputation for being a strong player, very much in the same style as his brother. He has great ball skills and is an aggressive, tough tackler.

"Rochdale tried to persuade him to stay, but he decided to make the move to Cougars, and I am very happy. He's a very good quality player with a very professional attitude - a good natural athlete."

Sinfield is 6ft tall and weights in at 15st 2lb and will add strength to the side.

Moorby has also added former Halifax Under-21 player Phil Guck to the squad. He is currently playing Rugby Union with Huddersfield RFU, and will play out the rest of the year in the Union code before joining Cougars in January

"He was a member of my Under-21 side at Blue Sox and I have been trying to get him to join us for some time. He went to Union and has ben playing out in South Africa, but has now agreed to join us, and he will give us extra options.

"He can play in the centres or as full back and is a good mate of Matty Firth and Dave Foster. He's a big fit lad and will give us a lot of options in the three-quarters," Moorby said.

Foster, who was at the club on extended loan from Halifax has also joined on a full contract.

n The Players Presentation Evening is to be held at the club next Friday, December 6 and Albion are to play Clayton at Cougar Park tomorrow at 2pm.
