A deputy head teacher has quashed rumours that his school is about to close, although an informal review over projected pupil numbers is taking place.
Kirklees Council's education department is examining both High Bank First School and Early Years Unit and RM Grylls School in the Windybank Estate, Liversedge. But the deputy head at RM Grylls School, Steven Jones, said parents should not panic. "No proposals have yet been put forward, or decisions made," he said. "I can understand parents' concerns but they will be told of the proposals and given time to comment on them. We are aware that numbers are falling but they often come back up again and I'm sure Kirklees will have lots of options."
A statement from the Council said: "The LEA's forecasts show pupil numbers decreasing to a level which gives rise for concern about the future viability of High Bank First and EYU and RM Grylls Schools. The LEA is considering, with the schools concerned, what would be the best way forward to ensure the maintenance of high quality educational provision for children."
