Bradford's own business angel will be on call to save churches and charities from IT disasters with a new computer consultancy service.

The Reverend Geoff Percival, of Christ Church, Windhill, Shipley, is retiring from his post as vicar on New Year's Eve to take on the community's computer challenges under Microrev Ltd.

The non-commercial agency - open to churches, voluntary organisations and individuals within a ten-mile radius of Bradford - offers a combination of on-site, telephone and e-mail support.

"The diocese is providing me with a home so for two days a week I will work as a minister and the rest of the time will be spent developing the computer support agency," said the 56-year-old.

He will offer help on new start-ups and purchases, install upgrades and design and manage websites.

Mr Percival's extensive IT experience stems from his job as an engineer before training to become a vicar.

And he still remotely manages a project in Zambia where he helped members of the European Union Electoral Unit set up a network for elections.

After 21 years in Windhill, he believes it is time to move on.

"Within the church I've given computer advice for more than 15 years," he said. "And over the last few years more and more people have come for the same kind of technical help. It's clear there's a great need for assistance and I can provide that now."

More than 20 organisations in the district have already expressed an interest in Microrev Ltd which officially opens on New Year's Day.
