Bradford-based financial services company Provident Financial has signed a two-year deal with West Yorkshire Playhouse to help bring theatre to the community.

The firm has agreed to sponsor the Arts Development Unit until 2004, helping the Playhouse to perform for schools, create after-school activities and workshops for the young as well as arts sessions for older people.

Playhouse director of corporate affairs, Dan Bates, said: "The support that Provident Financial offers us is our single most important business relationship.

"It is not just about the financial support, but the support, encouragement and enthusiasm our staff get working together with a company that puts community and education at its core.''

Provident Financial has just completed a year-long sponsorship of the Arts Development Unit and is now the unit's principle sponsor.

John Lomas, Provident Financial's director of corporate affairs said: "Our involvement with these initiatives forms part of our overall corporate community involvement programme, supporting the communities in which our customers and their families live."
