Both Eccleshill United and Liversedge were denied home games by the freezing weather last night and had to endure further postponements.

Eccleshill should have faced Buxton in the Northern Counties East Premier Division and Sedge were looking forward to an already twice delayed West Riding County Cup quarter-final with Goole.

"Our game was called off at lunch-time," said United secretary Lynda Andrews. "It's a long journey for Buxton and they would have had to set off early.

"The frost had got a real hold in the ground before the weekend and it was no better. We called a local referee out and he had no option but to call it off."

Sedge boss Eugene Lacy had mixed feelings about their cup tie also being postponed after Pav Singh and Kevin Lamey pulled out of the squad late on.

"We already had three players out so it went to five with Pav and Kevin," he said.

"It was still a strong squad despite that and we were hoping to get the game played.

"But on the up side we will have a bigger squad to choose from when the tie finally gets played next Tuesday."
