Keighley took a commanding 11-2 lead at half-time but in the end they had to pull out all the stops against Blackpool in the day's only Rugby League game. The game was doubtful in the morning but the pitch was in good condition - and it was the strong and bitterly cold east wind which created problems. Strangely enough, though, both sides put in their best work against the elements. Result: Blackpool 15, Keighley 19.

Women have always wanted a small handbag that can be enlarged for that "something I saw in the shop window" - and Mr W. S. Needham of Heckmondwike, has come to their rescue. His dual purpose handbag is on show at an exhibition of modern inventions in London. It appears, when folded, to be a neat, well designed, normal sized handbag. A collapsible part can be quickly opened out for carrying the shopping.
