THERE were great celebrations for the Tan family from Menston after their success in the SKU National Kata Karate Championships in Warrington.
The Baildon Seishin-Ryu Karate Club instructor Sensei Julian Tan won the over 40 black belt kata and was third in the male open.
His daughter Melissa Tan Swee Ling became a double champion winning the 18-20 years female black belt and female open category.
Her brothers took second places with Declan Tan Wei Leng second in the 11-12 years male black belt and Marcus Tan Wei Heng second in the 13-15 years male black belt.
Other winning students from the Baildon-based club were Heather Graham in the over 40 female black belt kata and Adam Dalton in the 11-12 years male 8th-7th kyu.
Second placed trophies went to Baildon students Stuart Rees (21-39 years male brown belts), John Dammon (over 40 male 8th-7th kuyu), Lewis Kennedy (13-15 years male 6th-4th kyu), Stacey Burrows (13-15 years female 8th-7th kyu) and Carrie Megaw (10 years and under female 6th-4th kyu).
Third places went to Sean Richardson (16-17 years male black belts), Tony Megaw (over 40 male black belts), Christopher Proctor (11-12 years male brown belts), Megan Harrison (10 years and under female 6th-4th kyu) and Emily North (11-12 years female 6th-4th kyu).
