The Keighley area has lost one of its all time bowling greats with the sudden death of Frank Taylor.

Mr Taylor, 72, was well known in the town, having had butchers shops on Halifax Road and Church Green where his conversational abilities and good humour were legendary.

He was a true family man who enjoyed all sports and games together with caravaning jaunts with his wife, Joyce, and friends.

Frank began his bowling career at Whins Wood where his name can still be seen on the club's cup winners board from the 1950's. He later played for Oakworth in the old Keighley League when he was one of the starts of a great team.

When that team broke up in the mid 60's Frank played golf at Branshaw, but resurrected his bowling career at Keighley BC in the 1980's, helping the team to successive league titles.

In recent years ill health ended his playing career, but he continued as a vociferous supporter.

He had tremendous success in the Keighley League including winning the RV Marriner Trophy three times in succession after which the league presented him with the trophy. He also represented Yorkshire Parks at county level.

"He remained a very popular person throughout his bowling career and indeed his whole life. He will be fondly remembers as 'Frank Taylor Esquire'," said bowls reporter, Roy Sanderson.
