Old Crossleyans 3rd XV 22 Keighley 3rd XV 5 With both the first and second team fixtures being cancelled as a result of the weather, the third team travelled to Crossleyans with a strong substitutes bench!

On arrival, it transpired that Crossleyans had applied the same thought process and therefore the advantage was negated.

Both sides fielded their original third team line-ups in the first half and despite some good work from Sugden, Lewis and McAtrhur in the pack and Brookes and Kubran in the backs, the first half was a fairly even contest with Crossleyans taking a narrow 5-0 lead.

Following several changes at the interval the second half produced a more open game of rugby with both sides attacking at every opportunity.

The home side extended their lead with a penalty kick but within five minutes, Keighley were back in the game, counter-attacking from their own half, Race finishing a fine move with a 40-yard dash to the line. The conversion was missed.

Following injuries to Birkett and Bailey, the pack was further weakened after Moxley and Gibson were moved into the centre to contain the free running Crossleyans backs.

In hindsight this was tactically incorrect as the home side took advantage in the scrums and lineouts to win vital ball and play the remaining 20 minutes in the Keighley half.

This resulted in two more tries for Crossleyans, one of which was converted.
