Ilkley U-9s 8, Moortown 3

Ilkley's coach called for flowing passing rugby and despite the muddy conditions, he was well rewarded by a strong all round team performance.

Moortown had the better of the opening exchanges and despite strong defensive work by the Ilkley backs Moortown took an early lead.

However this was a game that Ilkley never looked like losing.

Man-of-the-Match William Shelton brought Ilkley back into the match with a 20 metre individual try.

Almost immediately after the re-start Joshua Waley scored and Ilkley began to assert their authority on the match.

A further try by Josh and two from James Smith and one each for Edward Hardy, Ben Morday and Jack Cheeswright brought Ilkley's total to eight.

Jamie Davidson, having run the full length of the pitch, almost added a ninth but was tackled just short of the try line.

This was a much improved team performance by Ilkley.

Ilkley U-9s 15, Morley 20

A much depleted Ilkley Under- 9s squad faced up to Morley. Slick handling saw the visitors score immediately from kick-off.

From then onwards Ilkley began to make their tackles count and following typically strong mauling James Smith managed a fine solo run to draw Ilkley level.

Both sides continued to maul strongly but Morley, with the stronger runners, were 3-1 up at half-time.

This quickly became 4-1 but with firmer tackling from the backs - particularly from Liam Bland and Nick Lockyer, Ilkley were able to set up the rolling mauls. Ben Mordey and Edward Hardy were instrumental in keeping these moving and the former was able to drive over for Ilkley's second try.

Ilkley maintained the pressure and Man-of-the-Match Liam Bland was able to squeeze in for a last minute try.

Ilkley U-11s 7, Harrogate 26

FOR the first time in ten years Ilkley Rugby Club's junior team progressed into the semi-finals of the Yorkshire Cup and coaches, players and parents were optimistic about a win over local rivals that would take them through to the final of this competition.

However, it was not to be even though all players concerned gave 100 per cent and thoroughly enjoyed the game.

The morning started brightly with Ilkley rucking and mauling well to put a well-drilled Harrogate side under some pressure during the first few minutes.

However, sloppy tackling gave the visitors their first chance to attack and they duly scored a well-worked try.

The rest of the half was very even but just before half-time Ilkley gave away a soft try to see them 12-0 down on the whistle.

Within minutes of the re-start Ilkley were forced into another error and Harrogate scored again.

The home side then showed their character and stormed back into the Harrogate half and from the resulting rolling maul Tom Crane crashed over after a rampaging ten metre run.

Matthew Worrall's conversion reduced the deficit to 19-7 and at this point Ilkley started to control the game but unfortunately could not manage another score.

Harrogate scored right on the final whistle to give them a deserved victory, albeit with a rather flattering scoreline.

Tom Crane was awarded the Man-of-the-Match trophy for yet another immensely impressive performance.
