Trevor Storton is in a race against time to get a defender in for the visit of Vauxhall Motors to Horsfall Stadium.

Centre half James Stansfield twisted his ankle in last week's defeat at Marine and will miss out when the third-placed side come to Bradford tomorrow.

But Storton has until 11am on matchday to pick up a player to help plug the recently porous defence.

He has been on the look-out for a new man at the back for a number of weeks now, but the budgetary constraints at the UniBond club have hampered his

search.

"There are people we are interested in," said Storton, who was furious with his defence after last week's 4-2 defeat against the league's 19th-placed club.

"It is tough bringing people in, but if we can't then we will play largely the

same side we did in the second-half at Marine."

Skipper Wayne Benn was forced to drop back from his usual central midfield role to help marshal the centre of defence with the experienced Graham Mitchell and that may well happen again.

But there will an extra option on the bench tomorrow as Martin James makes a welcome return to the squad.

James has been missing since he was forced to have an injection in his troublesome back three months ago but now looks set to make his return.

He will only start on the bench but Storton is grateful of the experience the former Preston full back provides.

"It is the quality of ball and positional sense that we have been missing," said Storton.

"He is an experienced lad and hopefully he will be able to come in and do a job for us. He has been training really well, really hard, and we all hope he can come back with no problems."

Vauxhall have now moved up to third in the league, and Storton is expecting a tough game for his side.

"They have a couple of good lads up front, a strong midfield and are good on the break," said Storton, whose side have yet to lose a league game at home this year.

"It will be a tough game, but there is no team in this league I am frightened of.

"Unfortunately what I am frightened of is what we will do. Our defence is capable of anything at the moment.

"On our day we are one of the strongest sides in the league and can beat anyone. If we can be more solid at the back there is no reason why we couldn't get a result from this game."
