A pair of used football boots and an old soda stream bottle might not mean much to some people. But Bradford City fans will be flocking to see them when they feature alongside a host of other unusual paraphernalia at an exhibition to mark the club's centenary.

Stuart McCall's footwear from the famous promotion game against Wolves will be on show alongside a bottle found during the construction of the kop stand and a second division championship medal from City's first promotion season in 1908.

There should even be a chance to get a glimpse of a famous 1911 FA Cup winners medal, identical to the one which collected £22,800 at an auction at Sotheby's earlier this month.

Organisers of the exhibition, to be staged at Bradford Industrial Museum later this year, believe at least two other medals from 1911 are still in the city.

When it was auctioned, Frank Thompson's medal for his part in the historic 1-0 victory against Newcastle United at Old Trafford, realised the second highest price ever paid for a cup winner's medal.

The amount rocketed after a fierce bidding war between two rival parties drove the price up from £7,000 to more than £22,000 - and just £700 short of the amount Sir Stanley Matthews' 1953 medal earned.

But club managing director Shaun Harvey, pictured, said he was confident that at least one other 1911 medal would be on show - along with the ball used in the final, a match ticket, and even a Colman's Mustard vesta case with enamel plaque proclaiming City as the cup winners.

Today Mr Harvey said he was delighted by the response to an appeal for fans to donate or loan items for the exhibition.

"We are pleased that it is coming together, but there is a lot more to be done," he said. "Not all the events are about football, and we are keen to look at the educational links we can build with local schools. Something like this is about the wider community, not just the football club."

But he said the club was still keen to hear from the mystery buyer who snapped up Frank Thompson's medal at Sotheby's.

Dave Pendleton, of the City Gent fanzine and part of the centenary committee, said he was surprised by the range of items already pledged to the exhibition - and called for even more.

"We are desperate for stuff from Manningham Rugby Club (1880-1903) and early City items from 1903-1922," he said. "We are also after programmes from before 1910 and anything connected to the actual formation of the club in 1903.

"We have the usual stuff such as programmes and all the official enamel club badges ever produced, but we need the more oddball things that people may have lying around."

The exhibition is due to run at the museum from September 20 to November 16 - and the current FA Cup is also due to make a one-day appearance.

Anyone wishing to donate or loan items should contact Shaun Harvey on (01274) 773355 or Dave Pendleton on 0771 2457490. If an item is being loaned, owners should provide an approximate value to allow it to be insured. They can be sent to Bradford City, Bradford & Bingley Stadium, Valley Parade, Bradford BD8 7DY.
