Andy Gray has fired himself into Scotland's Euro 2004 plans.

City's top marksman has been earmarked for a call-up to Berti Vogts' squad for next month's crucial qualifier against Iceland at Hampden Park on March 29.

Gray notched a goal on his debut for Scotland's Future team in Turkey on Tuesday, his seventh in the last ten games.

And Vogts, still chasing his first win after a year in charge, is set to reward the 26-year-old with a place in his line-up for the Glasgow clash.

Vogts is planning another get- together on Tuesday, March 11 in the build-up to that game. Gray is certain to get an invite as he looks to emulate his father Frank, who was capped 32 times. The Scotland boss, who had not seen the Bantams striker perform live before, said: "Andy Gray played well in his first international and showed he can make the step up."

Gray has now hit 13 this season since moving from right winger to centre forward. But he felt he could have done even better in Antalya.

He also crashed a shot against the bar and said: "I was disappointed not to score two or even three goals because I had a few good chances.

"I know I should have had more but I was pleased to get the goal just the same."

Gray, who rang his dad straight after the final whistle at the Ataturk Stadium, refuses to get carried away about the possibility of a Hampden call.

He added: "I don't want to think too far ahead and I just want to take things as they come just now. It was a good night and it all just happened very quickly so it's not really sunk in yet.

"The manager just said 'well done' to everyone after the game and I think he was pleased at the way we performed against a strong football nation."

Gray was back in training with the Bantams this morning after flying back yesterday. If he does get the nod for the Iceland game, that would rule him out of City's trip to Norwich on the same afternoon.

Gray, signed on a Bosman from Nottingham Forest last summer, has played more games this season than any of his team-mates. The only one he missed - against Ipswich - was for picking up five bookings.
