Good luck was in short supply for this black cat when she was hit by a car and left seriously injured.

But the unfortunate feline has bounced back despite wandering in agony for days and having a leg amputated.

Now staff at the surgery where she is being treated are trying to find a good home for the plucky pet who has already won their hearts.

Vet Andy MacGregor said the animal - nicknamed Legless - was brought in to the Ashland surgery in Ilkley by RSPCA officers who had spent several days trying to catch her after she was seen wandering in the open at Barnoldswick.

He believes the cat, aged about three, had probably been run over. "Her foot was broken in 12 to 14 different places and because she was out in the open it has become badly infected," he said. "When the RSPCA officers brought her in she was very weak and ill and unfortunately we had to amputate the damaged leg.

"But just a day later she is already bouncing around. You see these cats when they have lost legs and within weeks they are out and about and hunting again.

Attempts to find an owner have failed and now veterinary staff are appealing for someone to give her a good home.

Senior nurse Yvonne Wood said: "She was shocked and in quite a lot of pain when she came in - but cats can survive quite horrific injuries.

"She is a plucky little thing and extremely friendly - all the nurses are getting quite attached to her. She would make a lovely pet for someone."

Anyone interested in adopting Legless should contact the surgery on 817000.
