VICAR'S wife Rosie Tudge will be whizzing down Swiss mountain slopes on her skis tomorrow and Saturday.

However, it will be no holiday for the wife of the Rev Paul Tudge, of All Saints Church, Ilkley. The 48-year-old mother of four will be attempting to ski 24 peaks in just 48 hours to raise money for charity.

She is one of 139 people from the UK trying to achieve the feat on behalf of SCOPE, the charity for those suffering from cerebral palsy.

"We'll be up at the crack of dawn, spend all day skiing without lunch or any other breaks and then do it all again the next day," said Mrs Tudge, who has a four-year-old son with the illness.

The mountains are spread over three resorts in the Sallbach area and each skier will bring a net profit to the charity of at least £1,000.

Mrs Tudge, who comes from a Swiss family and was brought up at Villars on Lake Geneva, said: "Fortunately, I have been skiing all my life. A friend who knew about this pointed it out and said 'why don't you do it?'.

"Because my son is well known I am well above the sponsorship target needed. The amazing is the huge amount of interest the event has attracted with all these people taking part." Mrs Tudge said she was looking forward to the challenge. "It is my long-suffering husband who will have to look after the children while I'm away," she said.

Mrs Tudge lived in Villars until she was 18 and then went to university. "Afterwards I worked for a number of years in San Moritz," she told the Gazette.

She has been able to get in some practice for her daunting task by skiing in France in January and Switzerland at half-term last month.
