Vauxhall Motors 0, Bradford Park Avenue 1: Since September no team has gone to Rivacre Park and driven away with the three points.

But Avenue acheived a rare season double against the fourth-placed side without ever having to break into top gear.

The victory, courtesy of a first-half strike from Richard Tracey, was Avenue's fourth in a row as Trevor Storton's men continue their late surge up the table.

Starting a run of four games in a week, the second being the visit of Frickley Athletic to Horsfall Stadium tonight, Bradford were unfortunate to lose Tracey in the second half to an ankle injury that could have put an end to his season.

But Storton was still a happy man.

"That was a very good win against a strong side," said Storton.

"You have to be happy coming here and getting a result, something not a lot of sides have done. It shows what we are capable of.

"There were some outstanding individual performances out there."

The new-look back four, with Graham Mitchell at right back and Wayne Benn in the centre, had yet another outstanding game in keeping the side's third clean sheet in four games.

Striker Andy Hayward failed to convert an early chance when Andy Quinn had threaded the ball through, the top-scorer's shot going straight at home keeper Andy Ralph.

Avenue keeper Chris Howe, playing only his second game for the club, was called into early action as the Motormen drove forward looking to continue their ten-game home winning run.

A couple of headers from corners flashed over and across the Avenue goal but the defence held firm.

But it was Avenue who took the lead.

Good work down the right got the ball to Hayward in the middle. His shot across goal from the edge of the box was fumbled by the keeper and Richard Tracey popped up at the far post to carefully sidefoot a volley home from close range.

In the second half Avenue took their foot off the gas a little and tried to play out the game with their lead intact.

Apart from a clever move involving Simon Collins, Jason Maxwell and Hayward, which ended with the latter having a close-range shot deflected wide for a corner, there were few chances created by the visitors.

But Vauxhall, whose roller-coaster season is most definitely on a sharp down- slope, created little.

A series of corner and crosses were well dealt with by Howe and James Stansfield but the home side created only one serious chance.

Peter Cumiskey's low shot from the edge of the box produced an outstanding response from Howe, who somehow got his large frame across the goal and dived full-length to tip it round the post.
