An 11-year-old boy escaped through a window when a motor scooter caught fire in the kitchen of the house in Glenaire, Shipley, at 11am yesterday.
The boy, who was off sick from school, fled through a window when he was unable to find the keys to the front door.
A neighbour then forced the front door open to allow the family dog to escape.
The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault on the scooter.
Sub-officer Howard Cleveland, of Shipley fire station, warned people to keep front door keys easily to hand.
Neither the boy or the dog required medical treatment but the kitchen was damaged in the blaze.
