Keighley people are to pass on their parenting know-how to help other mums and dads.

A group of local people have trained as volunteers with the national charity Home-Start, which provides support for young families with children under the age of five.

The volunteers will be matched to local families and will visit them to provide help and support.

Home-Start volunteer co-ordinator Lou Bilenko says: "The idea is that the volunteer builds up a relationship with families and provides some practical help with their children.

"We realise that being a parent can be quite difficult, so it is important that we can give parents a listening ear.

"Our volunteers do sterling work and they really do help parents to cope with the pressures of parenthood."

The volunteers will be assigned to families in the areas covered by Sure Start in Keighley, including Braithwaite, Guardhouse and Highfield.

The volunteers were presented with their certificates at the Sure Start headquarters in Guardhouse.

Home-Start, which celebrates its 30th birthday this year, is on the lookout for more parents to train as volunteers. For more information contact Lou Bilenko on 01535 673777.
