An East Morton woman who has relatives serving in the Gulf is co-ordinating a fundraiser for the families of troops killed during the war in Iraq.

Lynne Greenham is organising a day of fun events on May Day at two pubs in Keighley to raise cash for the families of servicemen and women killed in the conflict.

Mrs Greenham's niece Claire Greenham, 21, is currently stationed with the army in the Gulf and is providing back-up in case of a chemical attack.

Another of her nieces, Stacey Roe, 19, who is serving as a caterer with the RAF, is on standby at a base in Lincolnshire.

Staff at the The Friendly Inn in Aireworth Street and The Kings Head in South Street have already pledged their support for the fundraiser on Monday, May 5.

Says Lynne: "We decided between the two pubs to have a fun day because we wanted to show the families of people in the armed forces that we care.

"Most people know someone who is serving in the Gulf, and having my two nieces involved brings it much closer to home.

"The landladies at both pubs are really involved with it and we hope the event will be well supported."

Lynne says that regulars at the pubs will be taking part in a fundraising pub crawl, with some of the men also offering to have their legs waxed.

There will also be the usual assortment of raffle and tombola prizes.
