A Guiseley butcher who made his name by producing exceptional black puddings has joined the award winning Lishmans of Ilkley team.

Simon Nicholson, 35, was named the Great Britain Black Pudding Junior Champion when he was just 18 years old and being trained at Thomas Danby College, in Leeds.

After working for several butchers in the Leeds area he made a complete break from the industry, but admits to now being tempted back by Lishmans' reputation.

Lishmans, meanwhile, has decided to repeat the successful photographic competition it held for its customers last year.

The event challenges people to have their photograph taken, while holding one of the company's official carrier bags, at the most exotic or interesting locations they can find.

Last year's winners, Addingham couple Jenny and John Kellett, were snapped in front of a dramatic orthodox church in north Russia.

Entries, which should include the entrant's name, address, telephone number and the story behind the picture, will be accepted at the shop, on Leeds Road, until September.

The first prize winner will receive a gift hamper worth £50, and all of the photographs will be displayed in the shop.
