A PAIR of warring families, medieval armoured warriors, an emancipated princess and a cross-dressing prince.

These are the ingredients in the latest production from Bingley Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

But the society's publicity officer Jackie Sugden doesn't want audiences to get the wrong idea about Princess Ida.

"This is not pantomime, but a comic opera with excellent music and satirical comedy, " she says.

He's back this month in a much milder tale of romance set in 1926 on the French Riviera.

He stars in the sparkling musical The Boyfriend which follows the millionaires' daughters who attend a finishing school.

Polly falls in love with a delivery boy and pretends to be a working girl in order to keep his interest.

The cast also includes former Coronation Street actor Roy Barraclough and Broadway legend Liliane Montevecchi.

Tomorrow sees the return of the museum's outdoor jousting season accompanied by indoor medieval activities until April 27.

There is armoured combat, themed interpretations, horse shows, falconry, talks, tours, storytelling, artwork and a children's trail.
