Schools chiefs were urged to go back to the drawing board in their plans to switch the pattern of the school year, which would affect Bingley schools.
Members of Bradford Council's Education Overview and Scrutiny Committee discussed proposals for a new 'six-term year', which have been promoted nationally by the Local Government Association.
A poll of Bradford parents and staff found a high proportion of respondents agreed that a new 'standardised' pattern of terms would be better for teaching and learning.
But there was concern problems would ensue if the system ended up out of kilter with neighbouring authorities.
Members agreed to note the results of a consultation exercise, described by education director Phil Green as "a very healthy response rate".
But they voiced concern that any changes would be best if they were co-ordinated nationally, rather than a unilateral effort by Bradford.
