Yarnbury 41, Keighley 17

YARNBURY continued their current good form as they comfortably defeated Keighley 41-17 in a friendly contest.

With most of their first team on tour in Belgium, Yarnbury still managed to field a strong line-up. They never looked like losing and quickly got the first score.

The excellent Ben Horner broke through the midfield and drew the last man to allow captain Gareth Jones to sprint in for the try. Horner converted.

Yarnbury continued to bombard the Yorkshire Two champions with constant running rugby but Keighley's desperate defence managed to keep the score down.

Winger Steve Hope got Yarnbury's second try after great work from the forwards.

Yarnbury's defence has been solid in recent matches and Saturday was no exception and Keighley came away from a period of pressure pointless.

Yarnbury had the game secured within a minute of the second-half starting. After a midfield scrum John Bramham dummy passed to both Lee and Jones and released Briars. The centre was eventually stopped on the 22. Keighley's defence was stretched and Horner cruised in for a deserved score.

After this Yarnbury took their foot off the gas and allowed Keighley some try action of their own. After some good pressure Keighley's strong No 6 powered over. Jones then ran in under the posts for his second score.

Keighley again pulled a score back. Hope made good ground up the left wing. His pass back inside to Rivett was telegraphed and the Keighley centre had a simple jog over the line.

Again Yarnbury came back Bramham enjoying his new role of fly-half. He had looked dangerous all day and he danced past four tackles to score.

The sin-binning of scrum-half Jimmy Lee didn't stop Yarnbury's demolition act. A loose ball was pounced on by Martin Rivett.

The flanker outpaced his opposite number, was eventually tackled, and the ball got into the hands of Mike Aspinall who cleverly slipped past three men to score his first try for the club.

Keighley again responded and scored their third and final try in the dying minutes.
