Guiseley 1, Kendal Town 2: With the imminent reorganisation of the leagues following the decision to expand the Conference set up it is imperative that Guiseley finish in the top half of the UniBond Division One table.

Performances like this certainly won't take them there. They dominated the opening half hour, took the lead and then gave the game away.

Albeit they had what looked a perfectly good Andy Shuttleworth goal disallowed and Mark Stuart should have had some reward for a push in the back but again Guiseley squandered chances and made defensive errors which cost them dearly in the end.

It was UniBond Family Fun Day and the crowd was boosted by some families who took advantage of the offer. There were prizes in balloon races and other games and parents were given the chance to win a holiday in Portugal.

The players too looked to have taken advantage of the UniBond generosity winning a set of training balls for scoring the fastest home goal of the afternoon.

Guiseley again created a host of chances that should have ended the match as a contest before allowing Kendal to equalise on the stroke of half-time.

Mark Stuart's sixth minute penalty sent Lee Ward the wrong way after Stuart Cliff was adjudged to have handled in the area.

Amongst a plethora of openings Andy Shuttleworth, Dave Henry, Alex Nesovic and Mark Stuart all had chances to increase the home lead.

Shuttleworth lobbed over from a good position and Henry was unfortunate when the ball bobbled on the hard surface just as he was about to connect and his shot went over.

Stuart hit the side netting and Nesovic had the best chance from a superb Nathan Hay cross but his powerful header went just over the bar from the edge of the six yard box with only Ward to beat.

John Lamb, who had earlier distinguished himself with two fine saves fumbled a cross, then recovered well to save the follow up but his teammates dithered and substitute Ian Simpson equalised in the 44th minute.

Early in the second-half Shuttle-worth latched onto a backpass and rounded the 'keeper to score. To the astonishment of the home supporters referee Andrew Smith disallowed the goal and awarded Kendal a free-kick.

Guiseley were further disgruntled when Mark Stuart was charged in the back in the 75th minute. Play was allowed to go on and from the resulting attack Gareth Jones was left with the easiest of tap-ins from four yards as the Guiseley defence failed to stop Kendal's progress down the right flank.

Alan Bailey came off the bench for the last ten minutes and created three good chances.

In the crowd were centre-back Jon Wordsworth was one of several familiar faces amongst yesterdays crowd, having returned to Frickley on completion of his three month loan spell. He too like the rest of us must be wondering how Guiseley managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
