Police are appealing for witnesses after an 18-year-old man was found unconscious with serious facial injuries.
The man was discovered in Laverock Lane, Brighouse, at 11.15pm on Tuesday.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said there appeared to have been a confrontation in the street between the victim and possibly another man just before the incident.
The victim, who lives in the Ovenden area of Halifax, is being treated at Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax.
