Cougar Cubs Under-17s 22
Hull Embassy 14
THE CUBS crowned a fantastic season with a superb second half performance to ensure they were crowned 'top team' in Yorkshire at Featherstone on Wednesday night.
Embassy pipped Keighley for the league title and the Cubs were determined to take revenge in the Grand Final.
They started strongly with a short range try from Tobias Williams, but such was the quality of the football that any errors were punished mercilessly by either side.
Two mistakes before half time allowed the Hull side to take a 10-4 lead into the break.
The turning point of the game came after 50 minutes when a slick inside ball from Rob Weir sent skipper Alex Szostak on a 60m run. He rounded the full back before putting Tom Kenna over for a try which Gareth Holmes converted.
Five minute later Cubs took a lead they were not to relinquish when Oliver Pursglove completed a fine move out wide and Holmes added the touchline conversion.
The final nail in the Hull side's coffin came 10 minutes from time when Tim Wilkinson marked his return from a six-month injury lay-off with his side's fourth try, which Holmes also converted.
Embassy scored a consolation effort with the last move of the game.
Props Marko Serrazzano and Tom Palmer dominated the game and deserve a special mention after a heroic performance.
