Cubs Under-14s 20 Wibsey 18 - At last after three attempts the Cubs won the West Riding Cup. The final had everything with no quarter asked, and none given.

One or two Keighley players seemed to freeze in the game and they lost influential loose forward Joe Kennedy after only five minutes with a suspected broken arm. The pack had to be moved around, with new find Peter Forrest coming on early.

Wibsey scored first but were soon answered by free-scoring centre Adam Wilkinson, but then Wibsey scored again to retake the lead. Ben Carly's chip was chased and gathered up by Tim Bibby to score, but gain Wibsey hit back. Ben and Tim combined again for the next score.

Both sits of forwards were really pounding into each other, Danny Snowden and Jordan Harper never stopped running all day, Joe Milner kept prodding the Wibsey line, but could not break through. Chris Thompson and Luke douse tackled well all day.

The Cubs only took the lead four minutes from time with a Tim Bibby drop goal, immediately followed by a second from Ben Carly.

The two kicks broke the Wibsey spirit and Ben went on to have two tries disallowed in the last minute as the Cubs finished the fittest.

Ben Carly's goal kicking was crucial with one touchline effort securing the victory.

This week's game is Wibsey away. Man of the match Tim Bibby, Man of Steel Danny Snowden, outstanding effort Tom Hall.

n The Cubs Under-15s also played Wibsey in their age-group final at Sheffield, but could not make their mark on the big occasion, slipping to a 42-6 defeat.

It was the team's first cup final appearance and Wibsey were soon on the attack, scoring twice in the first five minutes. Sam Walker scored a 75-yard interception try and Kristian Stell added the conversion but Wibsey scored three more tries to lead 24-6 at the break.

Cubs performed defensive heroics in the second half, but Wibsey still managed to cross three times while the Cubs were denied a score.

"The effort throughout was tremendous, and I'm sure the players have learned a lot," said coach Tim Smith.
