Andy Gray has been named the Telegraph & Argus/JCT600 Bradford City player of the year.

The 15-goal top scorer pipped Claus Jorgensen for the accolade, which is voted for by the fans.

The prestigious trophy caps a fine season for Gray, who succeeds previous winner Andy Myers.

Gray joined City last summer as a right-winger but made a successful switch to striker when Ashley Ward was injured. Gray has fitted in so well to the new role that he was called up by Scotland and played in last month's Euro 2004 qualifier in Lithuania.

Teenager Danny Forrest was a popular winner for goal of the season at last night's ceremony in the Sunwin Stand banqueting suite.

His overhead effort against Walsall at Valley Parade in March was the overwhelming choice.

But Forrest admitted the wonder goal only came about after he wandered out of position.

He said: "I was playing right-side midfield so really I should have been the one crossing it not Gus (Uhlenbeek).

"But I just decided to go into the box for no apparent reason and when the ball came in, I made up my mind very quickly.

"I made the best connection ever with an overhead kick.

"When it went into the net it was an unbelievable feeling. To score a goal like that, especially in front of the Kop, was very special."
