A Silsden school has received a glowing Ofsted report.
Inspectors described Hothfield Junior School as a "welcoming and harmonious community" and said it raised pupils' attainment through good quality teaching. Head teacher Bill Bairstow said he was delighted with the report, adding that it reinforced his deeply felt belief in the school.
He said: "This is a proud day for Hothfield Junior School. I am delighted for everyone involved in the school, including teachers, parents, staff, governors and the children themselves. The inspection has highlighted that we nurture and work with the whole child -- building on their strengths and extending the more able in the classroom and through clubs -- in an atmosphere of respect and care for children.
"The report also highlights that this is a good school in terms of up-to-date teaching in English, maths and science, with good results across the board. At the age of 11, pupils actually achieve above average standards in English, mathematics and science."
School facilities -- including recently upgraded computer resources -- and the way they were used, were also praised. And high tribute was paid to the pupils themselves. Inspectors, who visited the school in early March, said the children's behaviour and attitude was good, they were very enthusiastic and showed a keen sense of responsibility and initiative. Attendance was also very good.
The head teacher was praised for his leadership and management of the school, with good support from the governors. Other strengths identified by the Ofsted team included the provision of extra-curricular activities. Pupils who were talented in art, music and sport benefited from specialist extra tuition in after-school clubs.
Strong links between the school and parents were also commented on.
Areas for possible improvement mentioned in the report included standards in ICT, history and geography, and the presentation of pupils' written work and standards of handwriting.
