ROLL up, roll up - the circus is coming to town.

For the first time in more than 30 years, the most famous name under the British Big Top is about to launch its first full tour of the country - with Sildsen as one of the venues.

Billy Smart's Circus Theatre began in 1947 originally as a fun fair, but the circus element was soon added and quickly took precedence.

Over the next 25 years, the circus became a household name touring under a massive 4,000-seat Big Top, but regular tours ceased in 1971. However the circus is back - thanks to promoter Tony Hopkins.

The two-hour show has no animals, and is "enhanced by a live orchestra, dramatic atmospheric lighting and striking costumes, mixing traditional and contemporary circus skills with the very latest in theatrical production".

It will be held on Silsden Carnival Field between Thursday May 15 and Sunday May 18.

On the Thursday and Friday, there will be shows at 4.45pm and 7.30pm, while on the Saturday and Sunday, there will be shows at 3pm and 6pm and at 2pm and 5pm on Sunday.

The shows will cost between £10 and £20 for adults and between £8 and £15 for children.
