Albion Cats 12 Hull Dockers 14 - The Cats season ended with a whimper when they tumbled out of the play offs at the first hurdle last Sunday.

After their Challenge Cup Final defeat by Bradford the week before it means a season of high promise has ended disappointingly.

Both teams began the game with a series of handling errors and no one was able to gain the upper hand. Play was very fragmented and it became a typical end of season encounter. Eventually Hull were able to break the deadlock with a well worked try that was converted.

However, the lead did not last for long and in the Cats first real attack Laura Ackroyd neatly chipped over the defence, re-gathered and touched down by the sticks. An easy conversion tied up the scores and so it remained until half time.

Hull began the second period in a more determined mood and soon scored another converted try. In their next attack some Keighley indiscipline presented Dockers with a penalty under the posts which was duly converted. As the game entered the final quarter Keighley finally awoke from their slumbers and began to play some better rugby.

Sarah Shillito finished off a good move with a try which Ackroyd converted and Hull were rattled. The momentum was with the home side but each time Keighley got a roll on a Dockers player went down injured. This happened at almost every tackle and the home side became frustrated as the referee insisted on stopping play each time. So the Cats ran out of time and Hull won a scrappy match.

In a lethargic performance there were not many plus points for Keighley but in her first ever senior game Emma Templeton capped an excellent debut by taking the player of the match award.

The Cats are now on their summer break where recruitment will feature high on their list of priorities. A playing squad of only twenty has been a major factor this season so the team will be seeking both old and new players to join the pre-season training in the summer.
